Moglicë was the second hydropower plant to be completed by Devoll Hydropower Sh.A. (DHP), an Albanian-registered company, owned and operated by Statkraft.
Devoll Hydropower builds, owns and operates hydropower plants in cascade along the Devoll River in southeast Albania, based on a concession agreement signed between Statkraft and the Government of Albania.
Moglicë hydropower plant utilizes a head of 300 metres between 650 and 350 metres above sea level. The approximately 167 metres high dam is an asphalt-core rock-filled structure and is one the highest of its kind in the world. The reservoir has a storage capacity of approximately 380 million cubic metres and a surface area of approximately 7.2 square kilometres.
The plant receives water through a 10.7 kilometres long tunnel from the Moglicë reservoir and is equipped with two Francis turbine units and a small unit at the toe of the dam. The installed capacity is 197 MW with an average annual production of 450 GWh.
Moglicë hydropower plant is part of the Devoll Hydropower Project which consists of development, planning, construction and operation of both Banja and Moglicë, with a total installed capacity of approximately 269 MW and a planned annual production of approximately 700 GWh.
The concession agreement also includes an option for a third hydropower plant, Kokel.
